Sea Of Serenity
SEA OF SERENITY invites the visitors to swim in Virtual Reality, several of them at a time, simultaneously for a duration of upto 10 minutes. The piece uses one of a kind waterproof VR helmet. Fifty years ago, on July 20, 1969, the lunar module of Apollo 11 was installed (21:56 in Houston and 02:56 in France); the first step was a few hours later). The first steps on the Moon are broadcast live on the entire planet and are followed by 500 to 600 million viewers. SEA OF SERENITY takes place at night in the body of a teenager who listens live the radio program on the historic event of the night of 20 to 21 July. The point of view passes from the first to the third person, leaving his body behind. The result is a crossing in a tunnel of lines and points, a trajectory of the Earth on the surface of the moon, where the last Apollo 11 mission landed. SEA OF SERENITY allows the visitor to float above the surface of the water and breathe with a snorkel, while being immersed on the lunar surface. The piece is a magic trick: floating in space. This simulation of absence of gravity bypasses the brain for an immersion of all senses. Like space tourists, the visitors enter a lunar travel agency and book their tickets to the moon. Immersed in water while wearing the world’s first VR underwater headset. they float in a virtual world. The moon doesn’t resemble what it’s perceived from earth. From time to time it snows and strong winds blow. There are active volcanoes.... and stinky mushrooms in the caves.
